INDEPENDENT HOME ENERGY DECISION TOOL

The smartest energy investment is the whole picture.

Solar panels, home batteries, an EV, heat pumps or switching off gas? Find out which changes make financial sense together — and what happens if you do nothing.

YOUR HOME, YOUR STARTING POINT

A better answer starts with your property.

There's no single best combination for every household. Tell us what you're working with and we'll preselect the right calculator inputs.

ALL THE IMPORTANT DECISIONS

Six investments. One financial picture.

Upgrades can either amplify or reduce the value of one another. Compare them in the same household model, not six separate sales calculators.

Electric vehicles

Compare petrol spending, EV charging, the car price difference and solar use.

THE QUESTION THAT MATTERS

What if you change nothing?

Doing nothing also has a future cost. Forecast your electricity, gas and petrol bills, then compare each upgrade with the same baseline.

  • Separate energy-price growth assumptions
  • Upfront costs and ongoing savings
  • Net present value and breakeven year
  • Individual upgrades and combined packages
  • Printable, shareable private comparison reports

SIMPLE PROCESS, THOUGHTFUL ANALYSIS

Three steps to a clearer decision.

01

Describe your home

Start with a new build or existing property, then choose your electricity and gas supply situation.

02

Enter actual costs

Use your bills, tariffs, driving distances and contractor quotes. Estimates are fine to start with.

03

See the long-term impact

Compare each investment and combination over time, including fuel inflation and replacement costs.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Common questions about home electrification.

Should I install solar or a home battery first?

Solar and storage do different jobs. Solar generates electricity; a battery shifts some surplus electricity to later hours. A battery only creates additional value when the avoided purchase cost justifies storage losses, capital costs and eventual replacement.

Does disconnecting natural gas save connection charges?

It can, but only once all gas appliances have been converted and the gas connection is properly disconnected. The calculator treats ongoing gas use charges separately from annual standing charges.

Can I compare a new build with an existing-home retrofit?

Yes. New builds compare incremental system costs against the planned baseline; retrofits consider the costs of changing systems already present in the property. An existing appliance near end-of-life may require a separate replacement-timing assessment.

Will the tool know whether my house can connect to gas?

No. An address lookup may locate a property or identify solar resources, but it cannot reliably confirm a gas or electricity network connection. Confirm service and connection charges with the appropriate utility.

Is this a detailed solar or battery system design?

No. The calculator is a financial screening tool using estimated consumption and solar patterns. Roof engineering, shading, local tariffs, electrical design and network connection requirements need independent verification.
